Description of the guided tour

One of the most popular routes on La Palma for its beauty and rich landscape is undoubtedly the Route of the Volcanoes, but if you do it at night under the Full Moon, it is an unforgettable experience.

This phenomenon is joined by a spectacular volcanic route of about 18 kilometers, where you can contemplate, under the light of the full moon, the recent geological history of the island. And it is that this path was, in its day, an important communication route between palm tree regions. This is a tough route, so you will have to be in good physical condition to finish its 18 kilometers from El Pilar Refuge to Los Canarios (Fuencaliente), the southernmost municipality of the island, in addition to wearing suitable footwear. , water and food for the whole journey.

During the route of the Route of the Volcanoes, our Official Guide will inform you of the history of volcanism on the island through a landscape of lava, ash, calderas and volcanic eruptions that intermingle with the characteristic green of the Canary Island pine while you cross the The youngest area of the island, formed by several volcanoes, which is part of the Cumbre Vieja Natural Park.

After picking you up at your official stop, our transfer will go to El Refugio de El Pilar, the starting point of this route that enters the famous GR-131 path that goes uphill from the beginning until it borders Pico Birigoyo. From this point you can see El Valle de Aridane, La Caldera de Taburiente and in the background El Roque de Los Muchachos, the highest point on the island of La Palma.

As we continue up the path, among Canarian pine trees, we can also see the towns of El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane and Tazacorte. We continue climbing until we reach the Hoyo Negro crater, from where we can also see, if the day is clear, the rest of the neighboring islands, as well as other points on the island such as S / C de La Palma or Los Cancajos. In this area, depending on the day, it is also possible to enjoy “the sea of clouds” that will make you feel as if you are walking on clouds.

Hoyo Negro marks the beginning of the many craters that we will find along this magical Route of the Volcanoes on the island of La Palma. After reaching Las Deseadas, the highest point of this route, a descent begins that will not make it easy for us. The black volcanic sand will surely end up in our boots on more than one occasion while we make the descent, but you only have to look up to see that the beauty of the route is worth it.

With our guide we will continue avoiding historical eruptions until we reach the picturesque Martín Volcano (Martín Volcano), one of the last craters we will see before reaching the end point of our guided tour. The Martín Volcano is characterized by having an impressive reddish cone that, from a distance, draws a lot of attention.

Then, among the pines, our official guide will take you to Los Canarios (Fuencaliente) where our transfer will be waiting to take you back to your point of origin.
