ROUTE DESCRIPTION

One of the most popular routes in La Palma due to its beauty and rich landscape, is undoubtedly the Route of the Volcanoes, but if you also do it at night under the Full Moon, it is an unforgettable experience. A spectacular volcanic route of some 18 kilometres, where you can contemplate, under the light of the Full Moon, the recent geological history of the island. This path was once an important communication route between the regions from La Palma.

This path is properly conditioned and marked and begins in El Refugio del Pilar, located in the middle of the island. Then, the trail meanders through the Cumbre Vieja Natural Park (in Spanish Parque Natural de Cumbre Vieja) until it reaches the southwest city of the island, Fuencaliente.

Walking the Volcanoes Route is the best way to discover the most volcanic part of the island, enjoying landscapes that seem like science fiction and even evoke a virtual walk on the planet Mars. You will also be able to enjoy incredible panoramic views of both sides of La Palma and, depending on the day, you may even be able to see some of the other three islands of the province: Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro.

It is recommended that you wear suitable clothing and footwear and carry water and some food for the journey.
