The black of the volcano, the blue of the sky and sea and the white of the salt come together to form the colors of the south of the island.

In the municipality of Fuencaliente we will enjoy this excursion that will not leave you indifferent and that takes place along the path that runs along the well-known “Route of the Volcanoes“, exactly in its final stretch. Along approximately 6 km of route you will learn first hand the most recent history of volcanology on the island of La Palma.

We start from an area near the visitor center of the San Antonio Volcano, next to which we will walk during the first part of the tour. After a few minutes of descent through picón terrain, we reach a fairly comfortable dirt road and from that point we will observe the Teneguía volcano, which erupted in 1971 and represents a symbol for the municipality of Fuencaliente where we are.

We are inside the protected area Volcanes de Teneguía Natural Monument, which allows us to discover not only this penultimate terrestrial eruption, but also other previous formations. Walking through the black volcanic terrain overlooking the Atlantic knowing that it was the youngest part of La Palma until the eruption of the volcano Tajogaite and see other islands on clear days will be a gift to the eye that you can not stop photographing.

The trail ends in the area of the lighthouses. Yes, you read that right, two lighthouses are located on the coast of Fuencaliente, next to the Salinas, a space that you can enjoy and know much more about thanks to our guide. The black of the volcano, the blue of the sky and sea and the white of the salt come together to form the colors of the south of the island.

As a final touch, we include a drink at the Jardín de la Sal restaurant, within the surroundings of the salt flats, to regain strength while we enjoy this special place.

If you want to discover why it is said that La Palma is a miniature continent, this is one of the indispensable routes on your list.
